Lego Star Wars 75278 D-0 Review

Welcome back to another Lego review. Today we are taking a look at the Lego Star Wars 75278 buildable D-0 character from Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker.

The set itself contains 519 pieces and retails for £64.99 here in the UK and $69.99 in the US. the set comes with a buildable D-0 and a display plaque with a minifigure scale D-0 as well which has become a recurring addition in these buildable character style sets.

D-0:

At an overall glance the buildable D-0 character is a great looking and unique droid and that is also certainly true of the build itself. As you can see from the image above the build comes with a nice sand Earth build which acts as a nice display stand for D-0. The character has a central round wheel at the bottom of the set followed by a small body and cone shaped head with wires creating this customised droid character.

The main section of the build consists of D-0's wheel, now the build itself focuses on the slopped tiles pieces being connected to two bendy tube pieces which help to create the circular effect, now this isn't exactly perfect as there are gaps in between each of the tile pieces but it is the best that can be done at this scale. The overall effect looks great on display and with the additional side panels help to create the circular look of the character that is seen in the films.

At the bottom of the set sits a nice little brick built Earth mound, whilst this isn't exactly a key part of the set in terms of its visual look but it does create a nice little display stand for the character and helps to create the illusion of the environment the character is in and gives the set an extra bit of height but most importantly it is there to actually allow D-0 to stand up by itself.

Just above the central wheel is a small body which is attached to the wheel using a couple technic pieces slightly hidden behind some tiles. Whilst there is not anything overall special about the body section itself but it is detailed showing plates and individual pieces creating a bit more depth and detailing to the body itself. The body does contact the main wires to the wheel as well and helps to show off the characters customised appearance. The image below shows off a better look at the wires.

One of the stand out features of the set and the character in itself is D-0's head which is created using cone pieces and two large cone pieces which are more commonly found on your Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcons but luckily enough both the round tile at the front and the large cone are printed pieces.

The set does also have some playability as well which involves the white and grey piece seen on the support bracket. If you rotate the grey piece at the bottom you can tilt D-0's body back and forth allowing you to pose D-0 as if the droid is moving, and if you rotate the white piece you can turn D-0's head a full 360 degrees allowing for a great range of possibility for display.

The back of the head also has some nice detailing with three antennas sticking out the back of the head which look great on the back of the set, you also have some single black studs and grill pieces to create some texture on the back of the head as well.

Display Stand:

The set also comes with a nice little UCS style display stand which is a nice little addition for the set. The information on the plaque is a large sticker but contains some nice little facts about the character seen in the latest Star Wars film.

The set also comes with an additional minifigure scale D-0 minifigure which is a nice addition and sits perfectly on the display stand on a single studded tile piece and looks great when sitting next to the brick build D-0.

Verdict:

Overall the Lego Star Wars 75278 is a great set and fits perfectly with the other buildable characters, whilst the overall appearance may seem simple its a very interesting and fun build at times espeically with the construction of D-0's central wheel which took a couple of attempts to get right. If you a Star Wars fan and a fan of the Lego buildable characters then this is the perfect set for you.
