Lego Star Wars 75283 Armoured Assault Tank (AAT) Review

Today we are taking a look at the Lego Star Wars 75283 Armoured Assault Tank (AAT).

The set itself contains 286 pieces, four minifigures including Ahsoka Tano, Ahsoka's Clone Trooper (332nd Trooper) and 2x Battle Droids. The set itself retails for £34.99

Minifigures:

Ahsoka Tano:

One of the main draws of the set is without a doubt the Ahsoka Tano minifigure. The figure closely matches her appearance from Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 during the Siege of Mandalore Arc. The character has proven to be growing in popularity over the years and makes for an exceptional minifigure.

The minfigure features a highly detailed torso and leg printing and an excellent face print which matches the regular style of Lego minifigure heads compared to the more cartoon faces that we saw in the Lego Star Wars The Clone Wars sub theme of sets. The minfigure also includes an excellent head tails piece which closely matches her appearance in season 7. The minifigure also comes with two blue lightsabers.

Ahsokas Clone Trooper (332nd Clone Trooper):

The other highly desirable minifigure in the set is the Ahsoka's Clone Trooper which is basically a 332nd Clone Trooper. The minifigure features a highly detailed torso and leg print (even with toe printing) which is the exact same print used on the rest of the 501st Lego Clone Troopers. The only real difference is the helmet print which perfectly resembles their apperance in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7. The helmet print looks great and makes the minifigure stand out compared to the rest of the Clone Trooper minifigures that we have received before.

Battle Droids (x2):

The last two minifigures are two camo style battle droids that are seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars piloting the Armoured Assault Tanks (AAT) especially during the first episode of Season 1 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Both minifigures are exactly the same in terms of overall design and feature a dark green torso and a dark green camo style print on the head piece which looks great in my opinion. Both droids come with a blaster accessory.

AAT:

This is now the fourth minifigure scale AAT that we have gotten in minifigure scale, two based on the AAT seen in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and two based on the vehicles appearance in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated TV series.

Out of all the four AAT this is probably the second best one we have gotten to date but definitely falls behind the 2009 AAT due to the downsizing over the latest iteration.

The set features all the classic features of an AAT with its traditional sleek design, duel laser canons, an opening control centre, an opening cockpit and a large canon at the very front of the vehicle. My main issue with the set and what has been echoed in the Lego Star Wars community is without a doubt the size of the forward facing canon, it really should be shorter to match the proportions of the rest of the vehicle. To accommodate this the set either needs to bigger in scale or have a smaller canon.

The vehicles side mounted cannons are simplistic in design but look really good on the finished model. The canons on both side are able to move by the clips connecting the canons to the actual AAT.

The central armoured plating at the front of the AAT can be opened using hinged pieces allowing you to place a battle droid into the cockpit. The interior is small but uses two sloped control panels on either side of the cockpit to add some detailing to the actual interior.

The top hatch of the AAT can also be lifted up allowing you to place the second battle droid minifigure into the hatch connected to the main canon. to be able to close the hatch back down with the battle droid inside you will need to have the battle droid sitting down with its head folded in.

The vehicle also has a pair of spring loaded shooters at the bottom of the vehicle which are well hidden and can be activated by pushing down on a grey technic piece located either side of the vehicle itself.

Overall the Lego Star Wars AAT for 2020 is a nice little set and in our opinion is the second best AAT to date and is certainly the sleekest design to date. The main issue with the set is to do with the proportions of the main canon itself. One of the best aspects of the set is the minifigure selection with the new Ahsoka minifigure and 332nd Clone Trooper looking fantastic and will be a huge draw for Lego Star Wars collectors.

Lego DC Batman D2C 1989 Batwing Rumours

Thanks to the Lego Instagram community we now have a new rumour surrounding a Lego DC Batman D2C 1989 Batwing.

There is an image circulating in the Lego Instagram community which shows part of the sets sticker sheet and part of the set itself which matches the Batwing seen in the 1989 Batman film.

Unfortunately as this is a leaked image we are not able to show it on here but it clearly shows half of the Batwing closely matching the image above.

We currently don't have a piece count, price point or even what minifigures could appear in the set but the set does have a set number attached to it being 76161 and a rumoured release date of November 2020. The set is also said to be in similar scale to the Lego DC 1989 Batmobile.

If this set does release in November then we should start to see some more images very soon and have some information on price and piece count.

Are you excited about the possibility of there being a Lego DC 1989 Batwing? let us know in the comments below.
