Lego 75254 AT-ST Raider Review

To celebrate the release of Disney + and the release of The Mandalorian in the UK we are taking a look back at set 75254 AT-ST Raider.

The set itself contains 540 pieces, retails for £49.99 (UK) and contains four minifigures including The Mandalorian, Cara Dune and two different Klatooinian raiders. The set itself takes inspiration from the classic Imperial AT-ST with a worn down and beat up visual style.

Minifgures:

The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian is an exceptional looking minifigure with great printing all around, especially on the torso with his armour plating. The figure features the same helmet design as previous iterations of the Mandalorians previously seen in The Clone Wars TV series but this time with a gun metal grey colouring. The figure comes with a cape and rifle accessory closely matching his appearance on the show.

Cara Dume

Cara Dume is a new character introduced in the show. The minifigure is a nice interpretation of the on-screen appearance of the character featuring a highly detailed torso and leg print design, the character also includes another long range rifle consisting of a standard blaster and lightsabre hilt piece.

Klatooinian raider

The first of two Klatooinian raiders has a nicely designed torso with leg printing, two blasters and a armoured shoulder piece and helmet making it unique from the other Klatooinian raider minifigure.

The second Klatooinian member features a unique torso design but uses the same leg print as the other Klatooinian minifigure. Both figures use the exact same head print, but this version includes an armoured neck brace and larger rifle then its alternative version.

AT-ST Raider

The AT-ST Raider is a striking set to say the least and is defiantly a more colourful version then its previous version. Apart from the obvious colour change on the legs of the vehicle, there is a swap towards darker grey plates, which are used to construct the head of the AT-ST. The set features duel blasters at the front of the head with additional cannons on each side and two spring loaded shooter which are well hidden near the two front facing blasters.

The back of the AT-ST is less detailed than the front of the AT-ST but contains some nice use of technic pieces to strengthen the head of the AT-ST, the back does include a dial which can be turned, turning this dial allows for the head to rotate giving the vehicle a wide range of playability and ability to pose the vehicle. There are small details that add a lot to this set including rusting pieces of metal and wiring (a clever use of the whip piece more commonly found in the Indiana Jones wave of sets).

The legs of the AT-ST are all connected using joints allowing the a range of motion, however due to the top heavy nature of the set, the legs have a limited range in terms of posability of the set for example if you wanted to create the illusion that the AT-ST is moving.

The head of the AT-ST can also open, revealing a seat for one minfigure and a storage area for a weapon. The set also features some interior stickers creating a basic control area for the vehicle. Whilst the interior is not the prettiest in terms of looks due to the slanted plates used to create the angler look of the AT-ST head but adds an extra level of playability for the set.

Verdict:

Overall the AT-ST Raider is a high quality Lego Star Wars set, the minifigures are highly detailed and at the time of this review are exclusive to the set (apart from The Mandalorian which is coming in The Razor Crest set releasing later this year). The set itself is highly detailed and is a great and exciting new twist on the classic AT-ST model with its decaying exposed wiring and rusting parts. The is a worthy set for any Lego or Star Wars set, hopefully this leads to more Mandalorian sets being released over the coming years.
