Release Date: 1st January 2022
This set was purchased at Jedlam Toys & Models.
Today we are taking a look at our first set of 2022 with the Lego Marvel Superheroes 76205 Gargantos Showdown based on the Marvel Studios Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness. Currently this is the only set to be released based on the latest MCU film.
Minifigures:
Doctor Strange:
Doctor Strange returns in the set with a completely new overall design featuring a brand new torso and leg print which closely matches the characters on screen appearance in the film (that we have seen so far from the teaser trailer). The minifigure uses the same face and hair piece used in the Lego Spider-Man: No Way Home sets with the new moulded cape piece returning in this set too. The minifigure also comes with two trans orange dish pieces to create the illusion of magic which looks good but no where near as good as those printed dish pieces we got in the very first Doctor Strange set. Overall a great looking minifigure.
Wong:
Wong returns in this set too with a brand new design featuring a very detailed torso and leg print design which looks fantastic. The face print and hair piece return from the minifigures appearance from the Lego Spider-Man: No Way Home set but his appearance here is a huge improvement in terms of design, however the hair piece still looks a bit strange here as well. Wong comes with two pink dish pieces used to create the illusion of magic spells which is a nice contrast to the Doctor Strange minifigure.
America Chavez:
The third and final minifigure is our first ever America Chavez minifigure a character which is making there MCU debut in the new MCU film. Not much has been seen of the character so far apart from her appearance in the recent teaser trailer but the minifigure looks good based on the little content we have seen.
The minifigure features a detailed shirt and jacket design with good printing on the back of the torso. The America Chavez minifigure also comes with newer mid legs hinged pieces which is a nice inclusion and a rainbow pin badge which is a nice looking printed piece. The only thing I would change would be the hair piece to more closely match the characters on screen appearance, but overall a good new minifigure to add to the ever expanding Marvel collection.
Gargantos:
The main build itself consists of a bring built version of Gargantos which has been seen briefly in the latest teaser trailer and overall looks fairly accurate in terms of overall design. The build uses around 80% of olive green pieces containing multiple cheese slopes in olive green and slopes and tile pieces to help capture the overall round shape of the body of the character.
One of the main focus points on the actual body is the large eye which uses a trans yellow dome piece set against a white circular plate to create the shape and depth of the eye, but more impressive is the printed pupil piece (yay no stickers!!).
The biggest visual draw to the set is of course the multiple tentacles that are found all over Gargantos. The tentacle pieces are all in olive green and are connected to the main body using Technic pins and hinges to allow you to pose all the tentacles adding to the play value of the set. The set itself even uses the tentacles to allow for the build to stand up however the height of set is fixed.
Verdict:
Overall the set is certainly one of more interesting and unique Lego Marvel sets and that certainly in itself deserves credit. The build itself whilst not the most complex build is well built and detailed well to capture the overall shape of the character itself and the inclusion of three exclusive minifigures is going to make this a must have set for Lego Marvel collectors and I would certainly recommend picking this set up.
The set will be available starting on the 1st January 2022.
