Lego Marvel Superheroes 76166 Avengers Tower Battle Review

Set Name: Avengers Tower Battle
Set Number: 76166
Retail price: £74.99 (UK)
Piece Count:
Minifigures: Iron Man, Black Widow, Blazer, Taser, Red Skull and 2 x AIM Agents

The Avengers Tower Battle was without a doubt one of my most anticipated Lego Marvel Superhero sets of the year. I previously owned the Avengers Tower based on its appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron which I loved but this version of the tower is far superior in every way.

Minifigures:

Iron Man:

The first minifigure is of course Iron Man. Unfortuently it is the exact same Iron Man figure that we have gotten in practically all of the other Lego Marvel Superhero sets of this year. The only new accessory for Iron Man is the large jet piece (to the side of Iron Man) which attaches to his feet. This was seen in Avengers: Infinity War and is nice to get in Lego form. The figure itself is highly detailed and still looks good as an Iron Man suit.

Tazer:

The second Iron Man suit in the set is nick named Tazer. The suit tiself using the Invincible Iron man helment but in a dark blue and silver colour which looks great. The minifigure does have some detailed print on the minifigures torso and leg design and comes with a moulded shoulder piece creating some more angles to the minifigure similar to the Iron Man Silver Centurian minifigure.

Blazer:

The third and final Iron Man suit in the set is called Blazer. Blazer is based off the Hot Rod Armour seen in Iron Man 3. The minifigure itself features a highly detailed torso and leg print design and I particularly love the hot rod print on the legs and the red arms which are a nice contrast compared to the rest of the metallic grey design. The minifigure does use the Invincible Iron Man helmet.

Black Widow:

The next minifigure is Black Widow. The minifigure is the exact same version that appears in the Lego Marvel 2020 character pack alongside the new Falcon minifigure. The minifigure has some excellent torso and leg print and some great side arm printing as well which makes this one of the best Black Widow minifigures to date. The minifigure does come with two guns accessories.

Red Skull:

The next minifigure is Red Skull, this is an updated version of the character and features a detailed torso design with the Hydra logo on the characters belt. The minifigure doesn't have any leg print which is unfortunate but does feature a nice head print as well.

AIM Agents x 2:

The last two minifigures are two AIM Agents. If you have been collecting the Lego Marvel sets from this year then you probably have a dozen of these minifigures lying around and apart from the accessories there is nothing new or different about them. Both AIM Agents come with a new brick build blaster design with one of the agents having a trans yellow chain with a hook attachment which is a nice accessory which you can attach to the Avengers Tower.

Avengers Tower:

The Avengers Tower is without a doubt a very tall set and even though I really loved the origianl Avengers Tower from 2015 based on the towers appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron this new version is far superior in every way and is a much taller tower build. The build contains five floors each containing different rooms with different accessories which we will cover in this review. One of the most impressive features is of course the giant Avengers logo which look great in a brick built form.

Ground floor:

The first section on the ground floor features an opening window section and storage space to be able to store the hover bike build for Black Widow to use (which we will take a closer look at later on). I particular like the ways the windows are built on either side of the ground floor section which look great on display.

On the other side of the ground floor is a small Arc reactor build which closely resembles the Arc reactor seen in the first Iron Man film. There is a nice play feature that allows you to push a tile on the back of the tower to eject the Arc reactor from its position which is a nice play feature. There is a lovely Avengers Tower sticker to the side of the Arc reactor which is a nice additional detail.

First floor:

On the first section of the first floor we have a storage area for two of the Iron Man minifigures. This area has a nice little display area for your suits and has an opening glass window at the front of the tower for you to fly your suits out of the tower.

On the other side of the first floor there is a weapon storage area which has an array of weapons including a bow and arrow (a nice reference to Hawkeye) a torch, binoculars and a gun piece most commonly used in the Jurassic World sets. Hidden behind the weapon storage area you have the Infinity Gauntlet which is a nice addition.

Second floor:

On the first section of the second floor we have a small prisoner cell (seen above with Red Skull in). Even though it is a small area it is built well into the actual structure of the tower itself and can be easily opened by pulling up the laser containment area or with another play feature allowing you to break apart the front windows which can be done using the Technic piece at the front of the tower.

On the other side of the second floor is a really well built lab area with an orb and the power infinity stone. This closely resembles the scene from Guardians of the Galaxy film. The actual work station itself is a really nice small build and looks great in the tower. There is a small sticker detailing print at the back of the lab space as well which is a nice addition.

Third floor:

The first section on the front floor is split into two sections the first being a small door and window built which has a nice sticker of a news reporter and the set comes with an addition sticker shower a 2D game of Captain America fighting Red Skull which is a nice addition.

The main section is the outside balcony which is well built and has a nice play feature that allows you to remove a Technic pin allowing the platform to collapse, this section does also contain the brick built Avengers "A" logo which looks great on the side of the tower.

On the other side there is a seating area that are able to spin around and a small table build with space to put a mug and has trans blue piece with a sticker on with an incoming call from Hawkeye which is a nice little detail.

Top floor:

Right at the top of the tower there is a decent sized area to place minifigures in with a nice rail design as well. The trans blue windows continue right to the top to the tower allowing you see the miniifgures placed at the top from all angles. Right at the top there are two antennas just for some added detailing.

Hover Bike:

The only side build that comes with the Avengers Tower is a Avengers style hover bike. The built itself uses a motorbike piece as the central frame then is bulked out with some additional propeller blades and some flaps to create the hover bike design. Overall it is a nice addition to the set and adds an extra play feature to the set as well.

Verdict:

Overall the Lego Marvel 76166 Avengers Tower Battle is a fantastic set and is the best version of the tower that we have currently received in Lego form. The set features 7 minifigures and a highly detailed build which looks great on display. This without a doubt is one of the best Lego Marvel sets of 2020 and is up there with some of the best in the theme.
