Thanks to Brick Fanatics we now have updated information regarding the development of the new Lego Star Wars UCS Republic Gunship.
As most of you are aware Lego ran a competition earlier this year to pick one of the new Lego Star Wars UCS sets, the options included the Republic Gunship, a TIE Bomber and a Nebulon-B cruiser with the Republic Gunship being chosen by fans to become a Lego Star Wars UCS set.
In a recent interview with Brick Fanatics Lego designers revelled an update on the development of the UCS Republic Gunship.
Here is an quote from the Lego Star Wars Design Director Jens Kronvold Frederiksen:
"To be quite honest we didn't have anything before the poll, we had done a little bit of thinking on the Nebulon-B and also on the TIE Bomber - but that was more coincidence. I would say the Nebulon was more to be sure we could deliver it, because of the structure. We were very much in doubt if it was at all possible to make at that size, so we were experimenting a little bit.
But with the Gunship we were sure we could do it and we hadn't started any work. Our development side takes time at Lego, so we hope that people will just be a little bit patient. It is going to happen, but we can't mention to launch date yet."
Whilst it is great to have any insight into the development at Lego on new products and an insight into the development of the UCS sets and the poll in general, but for those fans hoping that it was going to be released later this year then you might have to hold out until a potential 2021 or 2022 release date judging by these comments.
