Lego Star Wars 75272 Sith Tie Fighter Review

Today we take a look at Lego Star Wars set 75272 Sith Tie Fighter. The set consists of 470 pieces and retails for £64.99. The set comes with three minfigures including Finn, a Knight of Ren and a First Order Tie Fighter Pilot. The set itself is based on the Tie Dagger seen in Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker. 

Minifigures: 

Finn: 

The first minifigure is Finn. Finn only appears in two sets based on Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker and this set is the cheapest way to get the character (although it is not exactly a cheap set). This is an excellent minifigure overall and really captures the likeliness of the character perfectly. The minfigure has an excellent torso and leg print which is highly detailed, duel face prints, one which is overall happy and a shocked face on the other side and comes with a standard blaster in a gun metal grey colour and a satchel from the Lego Indian Jones theme. 

Knight of Ren: 

The next minifigure is a member of the Knights of Ren, Kylo Ren's enforcers in Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker. The minifigure has an excellent gun metal grey shiny metallic colour to it and features some excellent torso and leg printing showing his armour and robes. The face print is also in the metallic gun metal grey colour and is highly detailed. The minfigure comes with a black hood piece in the new black colour and a sword from the Lego Lord of the Rings theme. 

Frist Order Tie Fighter Pilot: 

The third and final minifigure is of course the First Order Tie Fighter Pilot. We have seen this minifigure before from the First Order Tie Fighter set from 2015, but it is always nice to get another First Order Tie Fighter Pilot. The minfigure itself is highly detailed with excellent printing on the torso and legs and a highly detailed moulded helmet which still looks excellent after all these years. The minifigure also comes with a standard blaster.

Sith Tie Fighter:

The Sith Tie Fighter AKA the Tie Dagger is definitely one of the more unique Tie variants that we have gotten in recent years. Whilst the overall design elements are roughly the same with a central cockpit and two wings either side but instead of the usual wings the ship has triangular pointed wings facing outwards with a new black, red and grey colour scheme which closely resembles the colour scheme of the Major Vonreg's Tie Fighter. 

The overall look of the set is fantastic and closely resembles its appearance in Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker. Whilst the set does look great especially on display it needs a support stand as the wings are much heavier which stops the model from standing up on it own, but the stand really helps elevate the set and makes it look great on display. 

The rear of the ship also looks great with two engines which are on hinges allowing them be moved down which also allows the cockpit to be opened as well. The use of curved pieces really creates the circular look that all Tie Fighters have, and it is possible that we will see that being used more on updated models in the future. 

The cockpit at the front can also be opened allowing you to place a single minifugre into the vehicle. The cockpit can be opened by moving down the trans red windshield piece and pulling opening the top hatch, its an overall tight fit and there is no place to hold the Tie Fighter Pilots blaster but it does the job. 

Both wings are designed exactly the same but are extremely well built using a lot of plates to create the triangular shape seen above. The wings are split into two parts with the large wing connected to the cockpit area, and a smaller wing that sticks out from the main wing which creates some really nice shaping and adds a lot of depth to what is usually a flat surface. The second wing does have a lay feature with a hidden spring loaded shooter which mechanism is visible by the grey grill piece.  

Whilst the spring loaded shooter is hidden from the side as soon as you angle the ship you can clearly make it out but that depends on how you display the ship. To activate the spring loaded shooter all you need to do is press on the grey grill piece which activates the shooter, which is a nice play feature for the set 

Verdict: 

Overall the Sith Tie Fighter is a great addition into the ever expanding Tie Fighter collection and it is nice to get a new iteration rather than just a repeat of the usual Tie Fighters we have come to expect (still would be nice to get an updated Imperial Tie Interceptor and Tie Bomber though). The price is steep for the set but there are quite a few large plates and that printed windscreen and two stand pillars which add extra production cost to the set, but honestly if you can wait and get this set on sale (like I did) then it is a worthy set for any collection.
