The Harry Potter was one of the themes that kick started my passion for Lego many years ago, having collected the majority of sets from the original waves of Lego Harry Potter sets the announcement of a new up to date range of sets was extremely exciting. Now under the branding of Wizarding World the theme now contains sets not just from the Harry Potter franchise but also from the Fantastic Beasts franchise. So here it goes our top 10 Harry Potter Wizarding World sets based on the 2018 reboot of the theme.
10 - 75958 Beauxbaton's Carriage: Arrival at Hogwarts - 430 pieces - £44.99
At number 10 on the list we have set 75958 Beauxbaton's Carriage: Arrival at Hogwarts. First and foremost this is a beautiful set, the carriage design is intricately designed with golden details that work really well with the light blue frame of the carriage. The Pegasus builds to my knowledge are unique to this set. The only let down to this set in my opinion is the blocky holder used to hold the two Pegasus's in place, a smaller structure would of been more appealing to the overall set design. The set contains four unique variants and new characters including Hagrid, Fleur Delacour, Gabrielle Delacour and Madame Maxime.
9 - 75925 - Newt's Case of Magical Creatures - 694 pieces - £44.99
Set Number 75925 Newt's Case of Magical Creatures is the only set on the top 10 list from the Fantastic Beasts franchise. This set is one of the cleverest sets of recent years, not only is the build a holding area for the magical creatives with lots of play accessories to look after the magical creatures but if you fold the build together it forms an actual case and is very accurate to the case Newt uses in the film obviously in a much smaller brick built scale. The set features three stunning brick built magical creature designs. The set comes with four minfigures including Jacob Kowalski, Newt Scamander, Queenie Goldstein and Tina Goldstein and a moulded Niffler piece.
8 - 75957 The Knight Bus - 403 pieces - £34.99
This three story Knight Bus featured in the Prisoner of Askaban of course deserves its place on the top 10 list. Having fond memoires of the original Lego Knight Bus, this set holds a special place with me and is a vast improvement (however hard to say) over the previous iteration and is much sleeker in its overall design. The set even has the ability of opening up with the entire side of the bus being able to be open using hinged pieces. The set contains Harry Potter, Stan Shunpike and Ernie Prang.
7 - 75947 Hagrid's Hut: Buckbeak's Rescue - 496 pieces - £49.99
Hagrid's Hut is a staple set in the Lego Harry Potter theme and has had multiple versions made over the years. As we are only comparing sets released from 2018 under the Wizarding World theme we had to add this set to the list. For a set the contains six minfigures including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Hagrid, Corneluis Fudge and Walden Magnair (the executioner) and a moulded Buckbeak with a small pumpkin patch and a Hagrid's Hut build for the price of £49.99 is just great. Whilst the build is only technically half of the hut itself that isn't necessarily a negative as it creates a lot of play opportunities for younger Harry Potter fans.
6 - 75953 Hogwarts Whomping Willow - 753 pieces - £59.99
Set 75953 is the first part of the Hogwarts build in the top 10 list. The build itself features a section of wall, a tower build and a arch entrance into the ground of Hogwarts. What makes this set stand out is the six minfigures including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermonie Granger, Seamus Finnigan, Severus Snape and Argus Filch, and contains Ron Weasleys famous flying car and a small Whomping Willow build which allows you to place the car in between the branches of the build.
5 - 40289 Diagon Alley - 374 pieces - Gift with purchase
Set 40289 Diagon Alley is the only gift with purchase set on the top 10 list. Whilst not normally a set that would appear on any of my top 10 lists so far it is had to dismiss this set. This version of Diagon Alley is at micro scale and is simply stunning showing of multiple buildings and shops that we have come to love over the years. The set also comes with our first ever version of Garrick Ollivander which will be a sure must have for those collectors out there.
4 - 75948 Hogwarts Clock Tower - 922 pieces - £84.99
Number 4 on the list is the Hogwarts Clock Tower first seen in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban. The clock tower is stunning and is a perfect addition to the Hogwarts castle line of sets and is highly detailed with a nice use of plates to create the angles of Hogwarts. The set features a total of eight minifigures including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore, Cedric Diggory, Fleur Delacour and Madame Maxime. The set also contains some really nice elements based on the yule ball in The Goblet of Fire and a lovely small Christmas tree design.
3 - 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall - 878 pieces -£74.99
The Hogwarts Great Hall is one of the most iconic areas of Hogwarts. The set itself features 878 pieces that are used to construct a highly detailed brick built version of the great hall and a tower build. If you turn the set around you get a nicely built interior of the great hall with wooden long tables where the students can dine and wait to find out what house they are put in. The set features ten minfigures including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore, Draco Malfoy, Nearly Headless Nick, Professor Mcgonagall, Professor Quirrell, Hagrid and Susan Bones. The set also includes a brick built Fawks and a Basilisk.
2 - 75955 Hogwarts Express - 801 pieces - £74.99
This is without a doubt the best version of the Hogwarts Express that we have ever received and honestly how can you not love the Hogwarts Express. The set features the main steam engine with coal cart and one additional carriage. The set also includes a simple yet effective platform 9 3/4, which is a nice addition to the set and is the best version of the platform we have seen so far. The set contains six minfigures including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Dementor, Professor Lupin and the Trolley Witch.
1 - 71043 Hogwarts Castle - 6020 pieces - £349.99
Of course in the number 1 spot on the list is set 71043 Hogwarts Castle, this without a doubt is the best Harry Potter we have ever got, even considering all the sets released from the Harry Potter theme. The set features a highly detailed version of Hogwarts Scale in micro scale, and features stunning detailing all over including a micro scale Hagrid's hut and a micro scale Whomping Willow with car. The set also has a full interior in all aspects of the castle and is honestly stunning. The set comes with four exclusive never seen figures including Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin and contains a range of micro figures ranging from Harry Potter to Bellatrix Lestrange. This set is honestly the greatest set from the Harry Potter theme.
So there you have it, our top 10 Lego Harry Potter Wizarding World sets. The summer 2020 wave of Harry Potter sets will bring even more sets to the theme which I assume some will make it onto an updated top 10 list later on during the year.
